DYNAMIC IMAGING OF
COGNITION AND NEUROMODULATION
(DICoN) LABORATORY
PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR
Tony W. Wilson
The Dynamic Imaging of Cognition and Neuromodulation Laboratory, also known as DICoN Lab, is led by Dr. Tony Wilson. The DICoN Lab uses dynamic functional neuroimaging and high-resolution structural MRI to understand how electrical activity in populations of neurons gives rise to normal and aberrant cognitive processes. Specifically, the team uses magnetoencephalographic (MEG) imaging to map the millisecond-level neural dynamics serving attention, motor control, and high-order processing, and uses computational neuroanatomical techniques on high-resolution structural MRI data to quantify the structural circuitry supporting these dynamics. Populations of major interest to the laboratory include healthy children and adolescents, youth exposed to trauma, and those who use illicit substances. The laboratory also has a section focusing on healthy and pathological aging in adults, as well as adults with HIV, Alzheimer’s disease, and those who use illicit substances. Finally, the laboratory has a rich history of combining neuromodulatory methods (e.g., transcranial electrical stimulation) with functional neuroimaging and has a section devoted to this emerging research area.
